EXPERIENCE
(before PhD):
Sept. 1995 - Jan. 2000: Research
Assistant (Ph.D. Candidate)
Department of Chemical Engineering,
McGill University, Montreal, Canada
- Study of the sorption and ion exchange of heavy metal ions in porous
biological materials in a batch reactor and in a packed bed column.
- Establish mathematical model describing the mass transfer and reaction
process involved.
- Identify the model by experimentally determine the model parameters.
- Simulate the sorption and ion exchange process by numerically solving
the simultaneous non-linear PDEs.
- Data acquisition and signal processing for sorption column operation.
- Develop control program for data card in C++ based on the device
driver program.
- Convert the control program into a MATLAB mex file so that the control
function could be treated as a native MATLAB function.
- Develop a user-friendly interface in MATLAB for controlling the data
acquisition process and processing the acquired data.
- Control of fraction collector: Modified the fraction collector (Gilson)
to an independent computer driven auto-titrator. A program in C++ code was
developed to control the PC card, Raleigh board etc., which in turn drive
the experimental devices.
- Teaching Assistance to undergraduate student courses: Biochemical
Engineering, Chemical Manufacture Process, Biotechnology in Chemical
Engineering.
Apr. 1994 - Aug. 1995: Research Engineer
Department of Chemical Engineering
McGill University, Montreal, Canada
- Kinetics study of metal ion diffusion in porous sorbent materials such
as activated carbon, ion exchanger and biological materials.
- Numerical simulation of mass transfer and fluid flow in sorption process
for heavy metal ions removal, with Finite Element Method and Orthogonal
Collocation Method.
Jun. 1991- Dec. 1994: Process Engineer
Joint Venture Chengdu Enwei-Sequel Pharmaceutical Co. LTD.,
Chengdu, Sichuan, China.
- Process technology design for the extraction of natural plant parts
materials (5000 T/year extraction liquid).
- Pipeline distribution design for the above project.
- Technology and mechanical design of large scale storage tanks.
- Coordination of equipment design and selection for the general
production line.
- Negotiation representative for importing equipment of plastic molding,
screen sieve printing and spry dryer from overseas supplier.
Sept. 1988 - Mar. 1991: Lecturer in Chemical
Engineering
Department of Chemical Engineering
Sichuan
Union University (Chengdu
University of Science and Technology)
Chengdu, Sichuan , China
- Research on the fermentation and refinery process for production of
alcohol and organic solvents.
- Scale-up design of an alcohol production process, including material and
energy balance calculation, technology design of main equipment such as
reactor and distilling column, pipeline engineering design.
- Technology design of gas-solid catalyst for synthetic ammonia from
natural gas.
- Technology design of gas flowing dryer.
- Supervision of undergraduate student projects, tutorials and laboratory
demonstrations in various chemical engineering fields.
